Street Legal Golf Cart Rentals Safety Video

Are you ready to hit the streets in your Street Legal Golf Cart or Low-Speed Vehicle (LSV)? Before you take off, it’s important to know the rules of the road and ensure you’re staying safe and legal.

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office and our team here at Street Legal Golf Cart Rentals have teamed up to bring you all the information you need to know to make your stay on the Emerald Coast unforgettable.

Low Speed Vehicles vs Golf Carts

First things first, let’s clarify the difference between a Golf Cart and a Low-Speed Vehicle. Golf Carts are typically only found on Golf courses, whereas Low-Speed Vehicles, also known as Street Legal Golf Carts, are registered motor vehicles in the state of Florida.

In order to be considered a Low-Speed Vehicle, a Street Legal Golf Cart must have a:

        • License Plate
        • Seat Belts
        • Turn Signals
        • Brake Lights
        • Reflectors
        • Headlights
        • D.O.T. Windshield
        • Mirrors

Where You Can Drive a Street Legal Golf Cart Rental

It’s important to remember that these vehicles can only be driven on roads with posted speed limits of 35 miles an hour or less and cannot be driven on highways like Highway 98 which has a posted speed limit of 45 miles an hour and greater. LSVs are not allowed to drive on these high speed roads, so please be aware of the speed limit and obey it.

Low-speed vehicles also cannot be driven on:

        • sidewalks
        • bike paths
        • utility paths
        • public walkways
        • nature areas
        • beaches

They can only be driven on roadways where you would normally drive your car or truck.

Age Requirement to Drive a Street Legal Golf Cart Rental

Drivers must be at least 16 years old with a valid driver’s license, but rental properties may require drivers to be 18 or 21 years old. At Street Legal Golf Cart Rentals, we require drivers to be at least 21 years old and have a valid driver’s license.

Seats Belts are Required by Law

Seat belts are required by law to be worn at all times by all passengers.

Laws Pertaining Children and Cart Seats

Children who would typically use a five-point harness car seat are required to use one in a low-speed vehicle. However, those who would typically use a booster seat should only use the seat belt, as most booster seats do not allow for the use of a lap belt alone.

Zero Alcohol Tolerance

It’s also important to note that there’s a zero-tolerance alcohol policy, and you cannot drive or ride in an LSV with an open container of alcohol, not even the passengers. If the driver is caught drinking and driving, they will be arrested for driving under the influence.

Where to Park a Street Legal Golf Cart Rental

Finally, LSVs are motor vehicles and can only be parked in designated parking areas where you would find other motor vehicles.
